Cookie Statement
In common with many other website operators, our website uses ‘cookies’ and other standard tracking technology. This Cookie Statement explains how we use cookies and similar technologies to recognise you when you visit our site (www.pipstickswalks.co.uk) and any other webpages that link or refer to this Cookie Statement, and in course of using any of our Services. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.
This Cookie Statement should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy and our Website Terms of Use.
Cookie Consent
By visiting www.pipstickswalks.co.uk you are accepting and consenting to the practices described in this statement. Insofar as those cookies which are not strictly necessary for the provision of our website and services, we will ask you to consent to our use of cookies when you first visit our website. Our Privacy Policy describes what data we collect about you and how this is used.
About cookies
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Each cookie file contains an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to your web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time your browser requests a page from the server.
We may use cookies to track your activity, log your IP address, or record other information about you. Cookies cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. Most browsers are able to accept cookies. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, allowing you to decide whether or not to accept it. If you decline to accept a cookie sent by us you may not be able to access certain functions of the site.
There are two types of cookies:
Session (Transient) cookies – these cookies are erased when you close your browser, and do not collect information from your computer. They typically store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally identify the user.
Persistent (Permanent or Stored) cookies - these cookies are stored on your hard drive until they expire (they have a set expiration date) or until you delete them. These cookies are used to identify information about the user, such as user preferences for a specific site.
Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a user, but personal information that we store about you may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.
Cookies that we use
Our website www.pipstickswalks.co.uk is hosted on the Squarespece.com platform.
Functional and Required Cookies
The functional and required cookies described below are always used. They allow Squarespace, our hosting platform, to securely serve this website to you. These cookies are necessary cookies to allow visitors to navigate and use key features on our site.
Analytics and Performance Cookies
Squarespace Analytics is used to analyse the use of our website. It uses cookies to collect information about website use and to view site traffic, activity, and other data. The information is collected in an anonymous form and is used to create reports to help us understand the use of, and to improve, our website.
The Squarespace analytics and performance cookies used on this site are as described below. They are only when you acknowledge our cookie banner.
Cookies and tracking technologies used by our service providers
Sometimes we may use services of third parties and they may use cookies on our behalf in order to provide their services, for example, when you view our MailChimp newsletter or make a booking via our Eventbrite page. These cookies are not listed in the above table.
Eventbrite
When you book on one of our activities you may be directed to the Eventbrite ticketing and registration platform. You can read about Eventbrite cookies here.
MailChimp
We use a third party service, MailChimp, to publish our periodic Newsletter and some other communications. MailChimp will automatically place single pixel gifs, also known as web beacons, in every email sent by us. These are tiny graphic files that contain unique identifiers that enable us to recognise when you have opened an email or clicked certain links. These technologies record you email address, IP address, date, and time associated with each open and click for a campaign. MailChimp will use this data to create reports for us about how an email campaign performed and what actions subscribers took.
We may use a Popup form on our website offering you the opportunity to sign up to our newsletter. Using a JavaScript tracking Snippet placed on our site MailChimp will deploy a cookie that recognizes whether you have previously viewed a popup form and ensures that you do not see the form again for a period of up to one year.
You can read more about MailChimp cookies here.
Social Networking
We may link our Events and our Newsletter to our Facebook or Twitter pages. Tracking technologies are used to facilitate the placement of our events and newsletter and other communication campaigns on the Facebook and Twitter platforms. These technologies enable Eventbrite and MailChimp to provide reporting to us about the performance of these campaigns. You can read more about Twitter cookies here and Facebook cookies here. Facebook does not provide an opt-out link for its cookies.
Managing use of cookies
Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to notify you when cookies are sent or to prevent cookies being stored. You can usually choose to switch off all cookies or to allow only certain ‘trusted’ sites to place cookies. You can also delete cookies that have already been set. For help locating cookies on your device, visit your browser's documentation:
You should ensure that you are viewing your site in incognito mode so that your browser does not detect other cookies on your browser.
For further information on cookies and Flash cookies and how to switch them off see the Information Commissioner’s website at www.ico.gov.uk or visit www.aboutcookies.org or www.allaboutcookies.org.
You should be aware that blocking all cookies will have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites. If you block cookies, you will not be able to use all the features on our website.
Changes to our Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. To stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies you are encouraged to re-visit this Cookie Policy from time to time.
